Saab is one of the world’s leading high-technology companies, with its main operations in defense, aviation and space. Saab covers a broad spectrum of competencies and capabilities in systems integration. Saab develops manufactures and delivers advanced products and services for the defense market, as well as for commercial markets where its expertise creates business opportunities. research, development and production are carried out principally in Sweden.
Its most important markets today are Europe, South Africa, Australia and the US. Saab has around 13,200 employees. Annual sales amount to around SEK 25 billion, of which research and development account for about 20 per cent of sales.
Five business areas
The global defence industry is currently undergoing an extensive transformation. To adapt to the new conditions in the industry, Saab has divided operations since 1 January 2010 into five business areas:
•Aeronautics,
•Dynamics,
•Electronic Defence Systems,
•Security and Defence Solutions, and
•Support and Services.
Saab has a total of 12,000 employees. Its defense operations (about 70% of sales) include Saab Systems and Electronics, which makes defense electronics (command & control systems, avionics); Saab Aerospace, which makes military (Gripen fighter) and civil aircraft and subsystems; and Saab Bofors Dynamics, which makes weapons systems for air-, land-, and sea-based forces. Saab also provides technical support and aircraft leasing, while joint venture Saab Ericsson Space (60% Saab, 40% Ericsson) makes computer, guidance, and microwave systems for satellites and booster rockets.
